This piece is a sort of abstracted portrait of one of my oldest childhood friends, borrowing imagery that references our memories together over the last 10+ years of knowing each other.

This oil painting looks back on the Summer I spent with my family in 2020. At the time, covid-19 was at its height and there was still little information known about the virus. During this period, my grandparent’s house served as a kind of refuge for our family, as we could escape from the horrors of the outside world and be together in our own bubble.

This was one of my first oil paintings, as I carefully studied the light and shadow on a crumpled sheet of printer paper. The creases in the paper felt really reminiscent of how I rendered fabric in the fashion illustration I used to do.
