Video

This video installation was the culminating result of my senior thesis, exploring ideas about the mundane integration of technology in our society and how that impacts our relationships with each other, and even our understanding of reality.
This installation was on view as a part of the "Come Into Being" Senior Art Exhibition at St. Edward's University from April 22 - May 8, 2022. The wall text for the work read as follows:
‘Director’s Cut’, Home Viewing takes place in a not-so-distant future where both our physical and digital realities have been integrated into a singular environment. I invite the audience to consider the concept of reality and its manipulation through subjective perspectives. When such perceptions are taken as fact, does it actually matter what really is “real”?
Green screen editing, or “chroma keying” is the visual effect of replacing anything green with a piece of digital content from the internet. Any green object that is filmed has the potential to have any image or video footage superimposed on top of it. Through the lens of a camera, these objects are ultimately transformed into something else that has little to no grounding in their physical reality - a flower may digitally look like there’s a bee on it, when behind the scenes the flower is actually made out of green paper. This concept of how digital information manipulates our understanding of our physical reality is what inspired me to create this installation.
What do our homes look like when we can physically surround ourselves with our digital preferences? What are the implications (and limitations) of such an existence? Have a seat, and find out for yourself…
